I had not known this word, "rewilding" since I took this class. so it made me interested in it. I have no idea whether which opinion is good or not because I don't figure it out completely. So today I am going to write my opinion about rewilding.
The rewilding has two merits. One is that it enable the developed land to become original one. For example, it makes the land with a lot of grass.
The another one is that rewilding can regenerate the indigenous ecosystem again.
They are so nice advantages for our planet, however it has a disadvantage.
One problem with the concept of rewilding is that, if misused, it can end up causing harm to the already existing biodiversity of the area.
An 2019 study looked at an example of this: The Oostvaardersplassen (OVP) project in the Netherlands; a project which started in 1983 and involved introducing Konik horses, Heck Cattle and red deer to reclaimed land.
The numbers of the animals being introduced were not sufficiently regulated, wildlife could not move to new habitats and because of the high populations, vegetation was reduced by overgrazing and caused 30% of the animals to die during winter due to food scarcity.
Therefore, rewilding has both, good points and bad point. I think rewilding should be operated in the future. If animals die because of rewilding, it will create the new stable ecosystem gradually, and eventually the ecosystem will be perfect.
So people should get knowledges about it more, and claim out opinions each other. It can make the earth better.

If people really want to rewild the area, they should better start doing something instead of waiting for the future, as this kind of action will takes long~long time and we are not sure the environment can last til that day.
返信削除Introducing deer, cattle, and horses can be good because they eat and fertilize the grass. BUT!!! if we don't introduce animals that EAT these animals, the population will be out of control. Well, wolves eat all of those animals, so should we live together with wolves? That makes me pretty nervous!
